Superfast broadband   ()

Huge progress this summer

Our project to bring ultrafast broadband to the most rural parts of West Oxfordshire has benefited from this summer’s warm dry weather. Significant progress has been made and, at the moment, you do not have to drive very far in the district to see a lot of build activity as new fibre optic cabling is being laid.

The district has been divided up into 26 'cabinet areas' and work is underway in 16 of them. Please use the Postcode Checker to see which cabinet area you are in. For details of timings, please see the Rollout Schedule.

Gigaclear is working with two contractors to build the network - MKJ Group and Lite Access Technologies.  Between them they have 27 teams across the district and all are working closely with Oxfordshire County Council Highways to ensure disruption is kept to a minimum. Grounds and surfaces affected by the dig will be reinstated to approved standards.

So far:

  • Over 250 km of trenching has been dug for the network
  • Over 1,500 properties are able to order a connection of up to 1,000Mbps now and this number is increasing all the time.

What happens next?

Work will start in the remaining 10 areas over the next nine months with the project still on track to be completed by the end of 2019.

Residents will be notified when areas come online and are ready for service. Please see the Gigaclear website for details of different providers offering services on the network.

Full fibre broadband, such as the network being built by Gigaclear, offers the fastest and most reliable speeds available. To encourage further rollout of this new technology, the Government has introduced a £67m Gigabit Broadband Voucher Scheme.

Gigabit vouchers can be used by small businesses and the local communities surrounding them to contribute to the installation cost of a fibre network. Businesses can claim up to £3,000 against the cost of connection either individually or as part of a group project. Residents can claim a voucher worth £500 as part of a group project.

Please note that this scheme is only applicable to areas not covered by our project with Gigaclear.
